What is Powder Coating?
Powder coating is the process of applying a dry powder coating to a pre-treated surface as an alternative to paint.
How does it work?
Step 1:
Pre-treatment in the form of sandblasting (abrasive blasting) or chemical treatment to ensure all impurities such as rust, dirt and old paint is removed.
Step 2:
Dry powder coating that is electrostatically charged is applied in our spray booth with the customer’s choice of our wide range of colours and textures to choose from.
Step 3:
After powder is applied the item is transferred to our curing oven. In the curing oven the powder melts and adheres to the part, creating a smooth, hard coating.
What types of metals can you powder coat?
Any metal that can hold an electrostatic charge and withstand up to 200 degrees in a curing oven can be powder coated. Metals such as aluminium, bronze, copper, brass, titanium, and steel (including stainless, galvanized) can be powder coated.
What are the advantages?
The finish is more durable and provides exceptional resistance to heat, chemicals, extreme weather, and corrosion. In addition, it offers a consistent finish that does not drip or run as liquid paint finishes. Powder coating has been found to be very environmentally friendly. Powder particles does not evaporate into the atmosphere as the airborne powder is filtered, resulting in a low to no health risks for employees.
